Photoinduced Copper Catalyzed C(sp2)P Bond Formation by Coupling of Diphenylphosphine with Aryl Iodides

A photoinduced Ullmann-type CP bond-forming reaction is accomplished at room temperature with no additional ligand. This method features broad substrate scope, scalability, and product transformation.
A photoinduced copper-catalyzed coupling of diphenylphosphine with aryl halides is reported. This efficient C(sp2)P bond formation is realized by blue LED irradiation of a copper(I) catalyst at room temperature with no additional ligand. A variety of sterically demanding and functionalized substrates are applied under mild reaction conditions to provide the corresponding triarylphosphines in moderate to good yields.
