This issue of Nachrichten aus der Chemie is dedicated to the 100 th anniversary of Verlag Chemie, the predecessor of Wiley-VCH. I consider myself a novice in the publishing industry, and my views originate from the perspective of researcher, author, referee, mentor, and editor. The practice of science is multifaceted, and I have always considered dissemination of results at the very heart of the scientific enterprise.
