Joint statement by DVGeo, DPG, GDCh and VBIO on the war in Ukraine (25 February 2022)

The four major scientific societies

• Dachverband der Geowissenschaften (DVGeo)
• Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG)
• German Chemical Society (GDCh)
• Verband Biologie, Biowissenschaften und Biomedizin in Deutschland (VBIO)

are deeply shocked by the armed violence in Ukraine. Our concern and our solidarity are with the Ukrainian people and all other victims of this war, whose immediate end we demand.

"We're not making any plans" (May 2023)

A year ago in spring, chemistry students from Kyiv were among the refugees from Ukraine. The University of Giessen accepted around 20 of them. Since then, they have started research projects, completed their studies, started a doctorate, learnt German or left Germany.

Poisons and chemical plants at war (December 2022)

In the course of the war of aggression against Ukraine, Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of using chemical weapons under false flags or planning to use them. Evidence for the respective accusations is still lacking. International mechanisms exist to have the accusations independently investigated.
