The voice of analytical chemistry

The GDCh Division of Analytical Chemistry has around 2,400 members and has represented analytical chemistry in Germany since it was founded in 1951. It networks universities, educational institutions, authorities, industry, equipment manufacturers and independent laboratories as well as the media. It gives analytical chemistry a strong voice in science, business, politics and the public and promotes education in analytical chemistry. The central member organ is the Mitteilungsblatt, which is published four times a year.

Intensive subject-related work is carried out in the nine working groups and in the Industry Forum Analytics.

Conferences

• The Division organises the ANAKON as a central scientific conference in odd-numbered years . Plenary and discussion lectures as well as poster contributions convey the focal points of scientific progress and the most important results from research and development.
• The analytica conference takes place in even-numbered years as part of the analytica trade fair in Munich. It is organised by the Forum Analytik, which is made up of the GDCh, DGKL and GBM societies. The Division provides support in designing the programme. The organisation of many sessions is in the hands of the working groups.

Promotion of young scientists

• The Division supports the activities of young scientists through a generous scholarship programme to (co-)finance active participation in national and international Conferences.
• The Division of Analytical Chemistry organises the Frühjahrsschule. The aim of the annual block event is to familiarise Master's students with analytical methods and issues in industrial analytics.
• The Young Analytical Chemists provide two members of the Division Board and organise annual meetings and other events for young analytical chemists.

Awards & Honors

The Division awards, among othersa. every two years the Clemens-Winkler Medal, the Fresenius Lectureship and the Division Award of Analytical Chemistry. The Fresenius Award of the GDCh honours personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the scientific development and promotion of analytical chemistry.
