Applied Symposia

The 12th Singapore International Chemistry Conference (SICC-12) took place from 9 to 13 December 2024 and was hosted by the Singapore National Institute of Chemistry (SNIC). It covered organic, organometallic, inorganic and materials chemistry.
The theme was “Building Chemistry: Bridging Disciplines” and around 2,000 participants from all over the world attended. We brought together an impressive line-up of speakers, including Nobel Laureate Professor Aaron Ciechanover.
Furthermore, building on the “Germany–Singapore Framework for Sustainability and Innovation”, signed by both governments in November 2022, we were proud to host the “Angewandte Symposium” in Singapore, attended by Prof Stefanie Dehnen (President of the German Chemical Society, GDCh), and Prof. Annette Beck-Sickinger (University of Leipzig & Chair of the Angew. Chem. International Advisory Board), amongst others.
It was our great pleasure to welcome synthetic chemists from around the world to join us at this exciting event in Singapore.

As part of the GDCh Science Forum on Chemistry – the ‘GDCh 150 Years’ anniversary congress – the Angewandte Chemie Symposium took place on 11 September 2017 in the Henry Ford Building at the Free University of Berlin.

The German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Israel Chemical Society (ICS) organised a symposium for the GDCh journal Angewandte Chemie in Tel Aviv, Israel, on 15 February 2017, in collaboration with Wiley-VCH. “Chemistry for Our Future” was the central theme of the symposium. GDCh President Thisbe K. Lindhorst led the German delegation.

On 13 July 2016, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), in collaboration with Wiley-VCH, organised a symposium for the GDCh journal *Angewandte Chemie* in Siliguri, India. “Bioorganic Chemistry and Chemical Biology” were the central themes of the symposium. GDCh President Thisbe K. Lindhorst led the German delegation and also gave a scientific presentation as part of the programme.

The commemorative symposium marking the 125th anniversary of *Angewandte Chemie* took place on 12 March 2013 in Berlin. The venue was the Henry Ford Building at the Free University of Berlin.

On 18 October 2012, the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) organised the symposium for the GDCh journal Angewandte Chemie in Busan, South Korea. “Inorganic Solid-State Chemistry and nanomaterials” were the central themes of the symposium. The opening address was given by GDCh President Barbara Albert.

In the International Year of Chemistry 2011, *Angewandte Chemie International Edition* – the flagship journal of the GDCh and one of the world’s leading chemistry publications – celebrated its 50th anniversary. To mark this anniversary, the GDCh organised two symposia in Tokyo and Beijing in June, in collaboration with the Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ), the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), the German Research Foundation (DFG) as a partner in the ‘Research in Germany’ initiative, and the publisher Wiley-VCH, organised two symposia in Tokyo and Beijing. These events were designed to honour excellence in chemistry and to strengthen the scientific dialogue between the GDCh and its partner organisations in Japan and China. Four Nobel Laureates in Chemistry and other world-renowned chemists spoke at the symposia, which could also be viewed online via video.
